I am a Chinese artist based in Naarm, Melbourne. Through metaphor, symbols, darkroom-based analogue practices, and photographs of resonant surroundings, my practice seeks to explore the residues of Confucian social discipline in the Chinese diaspora. With my methodologies and work, I aim to engage with how materials, bodily labour, time, and chemical traces in the darkroom can carry the sedimented leftovers of disciplinary trauma. By transforming the darkroom into a site of extended research, interrogation and reflection, my work echoes memory flashbacks and traumatic experiences that are anchored in a Confucian cultural background and linger deep within the post-migratory body.
